There is a great deal unsaid, deliberately, in this piece of writing but you don’t have to be a textual archeologist to unravel what is ‘hidden’. There are times when indirect means are more effective at reaching the ‘truth’ than direct means, as we intuitively know through the use of metaphor.

In my earlier article on ‘The hegemony of GDP’, I discussed the need to go beyond GDP if we are serious about capturing the ‘true’ picture of an economy. We certainly cannot do away with GDP but we can and must make adjustments (both subtractions and additions) to it to reflect the true picture, which here simply means the long-term impact on the economy. The State of Vermont in the US has set an example in this endeavour.

An exclusive attention to GDP as a measure of economic progress is unhealthy as has been shown by the many other goals such as SDG. It is time to evaluate if we can develop one comprehensive measure to qualify GDP

The global media is awash with talk of responsible AI and governments are formulating guidelines for ‘ethical use of AI’ but I have chosen to write on (the need for) responsible media, as so much of coverage is steeped in ignorance and hype.
